How Sentinex Began

The Sentinex Foundation was born from a simple yet powerful idea: that youth can lead transformative change in communities and systems that have long been plagued by inequality. Founded by Arnav Mittal, a high school student driven by a passion for social justice, and supported by COO Angela Butz, Sentinex emerged as a response to the persistent gaps in healthcare, education, legal access, economic opportunity, and gender equity.

Arnav recognized that many organizations were tackling these challenges in isolation, often addressing symptoms rather than the root causes. Determined to create a more integrated, evidence-based approach, he envisioned an organization that could simultaneously address multiple forms of systemic inequity, empowering communities while influencing policies and structures that perpetuate inequality.

From its earliest days, Sentinex was designed to be youth-led yet professionally structured. By combining the creativity, energy, and innovation of young leaders with the expertise and mentorship of experienced adults, the foundation was able to craft programs that are scalable, data-driven, and impactful.

The organization launched with a focus on four core pillars:

  • Healthcare Access & Equity : Ensuring communities receive quality, accessible care.
  • Racial Bias & Legal Advocacy : Educating and advocating for equitable legal treatment.
  • Economic Mobility & Opportunity : Providing skills, resources, and mentorship for financial independence.
  • Women’s Empowerment : Building leadership and dismantling systemic gender inequities.
  • From community workshops to national advocacy campaigns, Sentinex has grown into a youth-driven movement that mobilizes individuals, partners with organizations, and influences policies to create measurable, lasting social change.

Today, Sentinex aims to continue expanding its reach-locally, nationally, and internationally-while staying true to its founding vision: that youth, when empowered, can redesign system, transform communities, and drive equity for all.
